We wanted to share some exciting monk seal news with everyone. Thanks to a recent outpouring of support, The Marine Mammal Center has now reached it’s phase 1 goal of raising $1.7 million for a dedicated Hawaiian monk seal hospital. This will allow them to build the pens and pools this summer and soon after be able to treat Hawaiian monk seal patients! There is still a lot of work to be done to reach the full campaign goal of $3.2 million but this is an important first step.
E-mail announcement from Dr. Boehm, Executive Director of The Marine Mammal Center:
Aloha, everyone,
I am delighted to let you know that—while the tallying continues—we’ve exceeded our matching grant goal of $150,000 by a very healthy margin. And, the gifts are still coming in! We can begin construction on a hospital for Hawaiian monk seals!
With the generous and extraordinary support of a donor early in January, and the success of this past month’s “campaign within a campaign”, we now have the $1.7Mn we’d targeted to begin construction! While we continue the campaign to raise the entire $3.2Mn, we can build pools this summer to care for patients! The “above and beyond” gifts will give us a powerful story to tell regarding the support the project engenders, and they’ll sustain our momentum moving forward.
Thank you to all of you for your gifts, your support, and your outreach. WE DID IT!
